The purpose of this question is to determine if you are an innovative, creative problem solver who can find a solution that lies outside of the organization's normal operating procedures. But there is a hidden danger here. If your response indicates that you are too eager to break the rules in order to achieve your goal, you may be considered to risky to bring into the organization. So your answer should illustrate your innovative problem solving ability, yet still reassure the interviewer that you know how to work within the guidelines of the organization.

This is a multi-faceted question which explores your communications skills, your selling ability, and your determination. When answering this question, try to touch upon all three of these points. Use an example from the recent past which highlights your communication skills and selling ability, and make it clear to the interviewer that you are willing to persist in your persuasion efforts even when met with resistance.

Are you familiar with our latest marketing campaign? What do you think of it?
What the Interviewer Wants to Know...
Most employers will expect job candidates to be familiar with their products, including their latest efforts to sell them. Your response should demonstrate that you researched the company and are familiar with their marketing efforts. Unless you are specifically applying for a marketing position, the interviewer probably isn't very interested in your opinion about the marketing campaign, so a simple, positive answer is the best way to respond to the second part of this question.

Your answer to this question should demonstrate your general knowledge of the industry and your specific insights regarding the company you are interviewing with. Clearly, this question cannot be answered without having first conducted substantial research, so be sure to do that before you show up for the interview.

This question represents another opportunity to sell yourself to the interviewer, but there is an added twist -- your response should demonstrate that you have researched the company. Your answer to this question should combine the information you learned about the company with your skills, experience, and qualifications.

Your response to this question does not have to name specific companies, but it should give the interviewer the impression that you are being seriously considered by at least one or two other potential employers. If you can create the impression that other employers may be interested in your -- without appearing over confident or arrogant -- this will enhance your attractiveness in the eyes of the interviewer.
